LEARNING WITH LSM
Academic English
Tutoring (ages 9+)

Receive tuition that corresponds to the UK English Curriculum, from Key Stage 2 and 3 to GCSEs and A-Levels. With challenging, enjoyable activities and useful feedback, LSM pupils take pride in their progress. My experience with academic writing and proofreading (including preparing PhD theses for publication) and secondary school English teaching inspired me to make the highest standards of writing accessible to even the most unmotivated students. Those who may struggle with engagement, behaviour, concentration and/or confidence in any key skills are offered expert guidance in nurturing interactions, which boost their self-esteem whilst preparing them for exams and beyond. I also have extensive experience in supporting and differentiating for EAL and SEND (including ADHD and ASD) students, as well as pupils struggling with mental and/or physical health.
RELEVANT TRAINING:
- BA with First Honours in English Language and Literature (KCL)
- PGCE in Secondary School English (Goldsmiths) and QTS
Exploring Shakespeare or the Art of Analysis

There is an art to analysis that can be applied to any text or creative piece, and it begins with one of my favourite words: 'Why?' Expressing personal responses and interpretations can be the most magical process when we have the tools needed to do justice to our perspectives, but this can be very frustrating when ideas are disorganised, when we lack confidence and/or we 'can't find the words'. Perhaps you have a book, poems, paintings or songs that you would like to critically examine, or you want to dive into Shakespeare's beautiful plays and poems with a true fan who has studied them all. This program will be designed around your unique goals. From close language and form analysis to making comparisons and evaluations, you will be able to confidently articulate your thoughts in speech and/or writing that is nuanced, strong, clear and compelling.
RELEVANT TRAINING:
- MA with Merit in Shakespeare Studies (KCL)
- Shakespeare's Globe and Royal Shakespeare Company training
EAL (English as an Additional Language)

Whether you're a complete beginner or very fluent, these personalised lessons will ensure that you reach your English goals. Some students have a specific task or event to prepare for (e.g., an interview, exam, presentation or new job). Many students want to sharpen all key skills and improve their vocabulary, pronunciation and grammar. A few simply want role play scenarios with feedback to increase their confidence and ease in conversations, both professional and social. With extensive training and experience in teaching, as well as a grasp of English to a publishing standard, I tailor lessons to suit each student's unique level, personality, needs and goals, incorporating a wide range of evidence-based methods. It is so rewarding to notice progress in every lesson!
RELEVANT TRAINING:
- CELTA Diploma Grade A (Cambridge-Certified TEFL course)
- EAL Coordinator and Teacher at a London Secondary School
Personalised Yoga or Guided Meditation

Everyone needs to relax, but sometimes we can forget HOW to do it! Treat yourself to a restorative, empowering session that is personalised to suit your needs. You may want something more physically active or a chance to fully let go (maybe both). Reconnect with your body, breath and wise inner self under the calm guidance of a formally trained and Yoga Alliance registered yoga and meditation teacher (RYT200). I fuse elements from Hatha, Kundalini, Vinyasa, Yin and Yoga Nidra traditions, with influence from various philosophical traditions and healing modalities, including Tai Qi, Qi Gong, Reiki and Ayurveda. Each experience will be unique and transformative in subtle yet significant ways. This is open to all ages and abilities.
RELEVANT TRAINING:
- 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training (Sarvaguna Yoga in Goa, India)
- 100-Hour Meditation Teacher (also at Sarvaguna Yoga)
- Yoga Alliance Certified - Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT200)

Reach your goals with a truly supportive teacher in learning experiences that are engaging, original and empowering.
ABOUT: The LSM Method & Philosophy
1. ENGAGING
We learn best when we are genuinely interested and unafraid to make mistakes, so learning with LSM is a motivating and confidence-building social experience. (You won't find boring, predictable lessons and passive spoon-feeding methods here!) Each activity is challenging and stimulating, like mental exercise. Lessons are interactive and sometimes just really FUN.
2. ORIGINAL
Every student and situation is unique. With responsive design, each LSM lesson is unique too. Activity sequences are dynamic, innovative and creatively curated with evidence-based multimodal methods and a student-centred approach. Because visual language plays a key role in information transmission, students are also given clear, aesthetically-pleasing resources.
3. EMPOWERING
Learning can make anyone feel vulnerable, so students deserve a safe space where they are encouraged to push themselves to new heights without being judged for the natural stumbles along the way. LSM balances high expectations with empathy, recognising signs of effort and progress, big or small. Students have a sense of independence, autonomy and pride.
YOUR LSM TEACHER
Hi! My name is Tanya Paris. I was born in New York, but I have lived in London for over 23 years. I am an experienced teacher with a true passion for English, as well as yoga, meditation and art. I have loved reading, writing and painting for as long as I can remember. In my teens, I enjoyed writing, debating and presenting speeches and analytical essays, and I began nurturing a deep appreciation for classic literature, philosophy and Shakespeare - passions that burn just as brightly today.
After university I worked as an academic research assistant, transcriptionist and PhD proofreader. Then I became a secondary school English teacher and EAL Coordinator. While I loved these roles, my colleagues and students, I decided it was time to step away from institutional settings to set up LSM Learning. Here I can offer creatively responsive virtual lessons that align with my guiding principles, incorporating tried and tested methods - and none of the stuff that takes away from the magic of learning. On top of this, I get to spend time with my beloved dog, the official LSM Mascot, Ruby!
